SYMMETRICAL DESIGN
(Computer Art Lesson Using Paint that Comes with
Windows)
Step 1. Choose the Rectangle tool and draw a small rectangle or square about one inch. (To draw a square, hold down the Shift key while drawing.)

Step 2. Use Pencil or Brush tool to draw a design inside the rectangle.

Step 3. Use Fill With Color to add different colors to each design.

Use Select tool to draw the dotted line around the shape. Under Edit, Copy.
Steps 4 and 5. Then under Edit, Paste. Then Image, Flip/Rotate, Flip Horizontal. Then click and drag shape to the right side of the first shape. Carefully align.

Then use Select tool to draw the dotted line around this new shape. Under Edit, Copy.
While the shape is still selected, move anywhere on the screen that you wish, so you will have room to paste more shapes around it.
Step 6. Under Edit, Paste. Then Image, Flip/Rotate, Flip Vertical. Then click and drag shape to the top or bottom of other shape. Carefully align.

Then use Select tool to draw dotted line around the shape. Under Edit, Copy. White dotted line is still around the shape, click and drag the shape to the lower left hand corner of your screen.
Step 7. Under Edit, Paste. Click and drag this shape to fit around the first shape. Continue this step until your screen is full.
Second Option:
Choose Rectangle tool and draw a rectangle the full size of the viewing screen.
Use Pencil or Brush tool to draw a design inside the rectangle. Use symbols from various fonts to create different patterns to fill the shapes. Use Fill With Color to add different colors to each design. Print two times. Then Select the entire rectangle and Copy. Then Paste, Flip Horizontal, and Print two times. Students can cut out Rectangles and put together to form the symmetrical design. Tape securely on the back side.
Third Option:
Instead of using the Fill With Color tool to add color, leave design in black and white. Print as suggested, but allow students to fill in color with colored pencils or markers.
